Musical cabinet
Musical cabinet
This unique cabinet by Lasse Kinnunen develops his Origins collection towards a multi-sensory representation of the agency of craft. The artefact as it is made by the craftsman's hand encourages us to engage in its story, to value the hand made and to take responsibility for its care.
Lasse has used timber strips more commonly used in boat building than cabinetmaking for the shell of the cabinet, and inside are musical chimes and strings which are activated on interaction with the cabinet. It tells a story of human exploration by sea, with the sounds of the struggle and jubilation of our migratory traditions. We are prompted to experience the artefact through senses.
Materials: Locally sourced Australian blackbutt, camphor laurel and gidgee. Musical chimes and strings.
Dimensions: 200L x 44D x 72cmH
